The non-profit Organization for the Promotion of Social and Economic History Studies aims at furthering research and publication activities in the realm of economic, social and cultural history. The association is based at the Department of Social and Economic History of the University of Vienna. 

The organization’s most important activity to date has been publishing the series of scientific books “Social and Economic History Studies” [orig. Germ.: “Sozial- und wirtschaftshistori-sche Studien”]  (published by Böhlau Publishing House, Vienna).

The Organization for the Promotion of Social and Economic History Studies endeavours to tackle as wide a topic range as possible: from special analyses and investigations to overview representations. In terms of issues tackled and resources tapped, the emphasis – both geographically and thematically – is laid on Austria and its neighbouring countries. The published studies and analyses are primarily based on research carried out at the Department of Social and Economic History of the University of Vienna.
